Privacy Policy
This says what Karegar collects, why it collects it, who can see it and how long it is kept. It describes the app as it actually works, not as it might work later.
What we collect
Because you give it to us
- Your phone number. It is your account. You sign in with it and a password.
- Your name, and for a client, optionally a business name.
- The area you work in or hire in, chosen from a list of places. We store the name of the place and its coordinates so distances can be worked out.
- Your trade or trades, your day rate, your years of experience and a short bio, if you are offering work.
- The jobs you post or apply to, the rates you quote, the bookings that result and the reviews you write.
- Messages you send, including photos and voice notes.
- Your CNIC number and photographs of your CNIC, if you choose to verify your identity. Verification is optional. See below.
Because the app needs it to work
- A notification token for your device, so we can tell you about a message or a booking. It identifies the installation, not you.
- Your chosen language and text size.
We do not collect your contacts, your call history, your SMS, your precise GPS location or your advertising ID. There is no analytics SDK and no advertising SDK in the app.
Your CNIC
If you ask to be verified, we store your CNIC number and the two photographs you upload. Those images are stored outside the public media area and are never served to other users. Other people see only whether you are verified or not — never the number, never the images. They are kept while your account exists, because verification is a claim we have to be able to stand behind, and are deleted when your account is deleted.
What other people can see
- Your phone number is never shown to the other side. Not on your profile, not on a job, not in a quote. Workers and clients talk in the app's chat.
- A worker's public profile shows their name, trades, area, day rate, experience, rating and reviews.
- A posted job shows its description, area, budget and any photos you attached. It does not show your address or your number.
- Chat messages are visible to the two people in that conversation.
Why we are allowed to hold it
We hold it to provide the service you asked for: to show you jobs near you, to let a client reach a worker, and to keep a record of work done. Identity verification is optional and we only do it if you ask. We do not rely on your data for advertising, because we do not advertise.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. It is handled by:
- Our own server, hosted on DigitalOcean, which holds the database and the uploaded files.
- Expo and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging), who deliver push notifications. They receive the notification token and the text of the notification — for example "new message" and the sender's name.
We will disclose data if the law requires it, and we will say so unless we are forbidden from saying so.
How long we keep it
- While your account exists, we keep your profile, your jobs, your messages and your reviews. The point of a rating is that it has a history behind it.
- When you ask us to delete your account, we review the request and then anonymise the account: your name and profile details are removed, your phone number is released, your notification tokens are dropped, and your CNIC number and images are destroyed. Jobs, bookings, messages and reviews that other people were part of remain, shown as belonging to a deleted user, because they are also part of that other person's record.
- Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.
What you can do
- See and change most of what we hold, from your profile and settings in the app.
- Ask us to delete your account, from Settings, or by emailing [email protected] from the number's owner. A person reviews each request — deletion cannot be undone, and we would rather catch a mistake than honour it — and we complete it within 30 days.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct something, by email.
- Turn off notifications, per type, in Settings.
Security
Traffic between the app and our server is encrypted. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. CNIC images are held outside the publicly served directory. No system is perfect, and we will tell affected users if we find a breach that puts their data at risk.
Children
Karegar is for working adults. It is not intended for anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top is the version you are reading.
